Short answer
Arcana Unleashed released on September 15, 2026, with early access at game stores from September 1. It adds eight subclasses (half of them for the Wizard), 33 spells, 20+ feats, 47 magic items and a set of magic-focused factions. It's a player-and-DM book for the 2024 rules, not a starter product.

The 8 subclasses
Wizards calls these "new or revised." Six are rebuilt versions of older subclasses (Arcana Domain, Arcane Archer and the four school Wizards), while the Monk and Warlock options are new. Each one links to our full guide.
| Subclass | Class | Theme | Who should play it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arcana Domain | Cleric | A priest who treats magic itself as holy; counters and dispels | Support players who like shutting down enemy casters |
| Arcane Archer | Fighter | Magic-laced arrows with extra effects on a hit | Ranged fighters who want more choices than "I shoot again" |
| Warrior of the Mystic Arts | Monk | Unarmed strikes mixed with Sorcerer cantrips and spells | Monk players who wanted a real spellcasting option |
| Vestige Patron | Warlock | A pact with a dying god that follows you as a companion | Anyone who likes a pet and a strong roleplay hook |
| Conjurer | Wizard | Teleportation and tougher summons | Wizards who want to control where everyone stands |
| Enchanter | Wizard | Charm, mind control and social pressure | Talkers in intrigue-heavy campaigns |
| Necromancer | Wizard | An undead familiar from level 3, then a growing horde | Players happy to run several creatures at once |
| Transmuter | Wizard | A Transmuter's Stone, self-buffs and Polymorph upgrades | Utility casters who like helping the party |
The class spread is lopsided. Wizard players get four options; Barbarian, Bard, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue and Sorcerer players get none. If your character is in that second group, the subclasses alone aren't a reason to buy, though the feats and spells may still be.
What's inside
| Content | Count and notes |
|---|---|
| Subclasses | 8 new and revised |
| Spells | 33 new and revised, more than half of them level 5 or higher |
| Feats | 20+ (Origin, General, Fighting Style and Epic Boon) |
| Backgrounds | 10, most tied to a faction |
| Magic items | 47, including evolving items that unlock powers over time |
| Creatures | 19 magical creatures, including archmages and living spells |
| Factions | 9 arcane factions, plus 6 group patrons |
| Adventure | Tomb of the Shadow Serpents, a level 1 adventure for one or two sessions |
The book is organized into six chapters: character options, spells, building magical worlds, magical factions, magic items and magical creatures, with the short adventure in an appendix. The factions chapter ties into the Bastion rules from the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide, giving each faction its own special facility.
Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall
Deadfall is a separate adventure book released alongside it. It runs from level 11 to 20 in the lich-ruled nation of Thay, with Szass Tam as the main villain. It includes a Thay gazetteer, 20+ maps, six high-challenge creatures and 14 magic items. You don't need Deadfall to use Arcana Unleashed; it's only worth adding if your group plans to play at high levels.
Is it worth buying?
- Yes, if someone at your table plays a Wizard, Warlock, Cleric, Monk or Fighter, or your DM runs a magic-heavy campaign and wants factions and high-level spells.
- Probably not yet, if you're new and still learning the 2024 Player's Handbook. Start with a starter set or the core book first.
- Digital only, if you mainly want one subclass. The $29.99 digital edition on D&D Beyond unlocks it for your character builder.
